If you’re looking for a way to disable 5GHz wifi on your router, there are a few things you can do. For starters, you can disable DHCP (Domain Host Configuration Protocol), manually update your router driver, or turn off tri-band auto-selection.
Disable 2.4 GHz
When setting up a new wireless network, you may want to disable the 2.4 GHz band. The reason is because some legacy devices, such as Rokus and game consoles, use this band. The main SSID of your network should be on 5GHz, but you may want to keep 2.4GHz support for BYOD and Guest networks.
Disabling the 2.4GHz band on your wifi router can be done in several ways. First, you can disable the Auto-Join function, which is enabled by default. You can also disable the “Overflow Menu,” which is usually represented by three horizontal bars. Also, you can turn off the “WiFi” radio altogether by unchecking the checkbox next to “Enable element adoption.”
Once you’ve done this, you can turn off the band steering feature. This feature allows your device to connect to your network without using encryption or authentication.
Disable DHCP
You can disable DHCP for 5GHz wireless networks on your router by going to its settings page. This process is different for every router, but it is not hard to complete. You need to make sure that your modem is connected via Ethernet cable to your router, and that you are using a valid wireless signal.
To disable DHCP, press the Windows + X keys. This opens Settings > Network & Internet. From there, select your connection. From there, select the properties tab and then click the Disable DHCP option. Click Save to apply your changes. Once you’ve done this, you’re all set.
DHCP can also be disabled by Windows Defender Firewall. If the DHCP client is blocked by your computer’s Firewall, disable it from the Control Panel.
Manually update driver
To manually update the WiFi driver to disable 5GHz, you will need to start your PC and open the Device Manager window. There, you will find a section called Network Adapter. Click the Update driver option and restart your PC to see if you have the correct version of the driver.
If the driver is outdated, you can update it manually. You can find the SDI NNNNN and NN driverpacks. These updates will detect the components of your computer and show you a list of available updates. Make sure to uncheck any network adapter updates that are not for your model.
If you do not see a link to update the driver, you can manually go to the driver’s website and update the driver. You can also visit the manufacturer’s website and download it from there.

Turn off Tri-band auto-selection
In order to turn off Tri-band auto-selection, you need to first turn off the 2.4GHz network. This is done through the network’s menu. The name of the 2.4GHz network will be “HUAWEI-XXXXX”, while the name for the 5GHZ network will be “HUAWEI-XXXXX_5G_1”. Now, go to the wireless menu and click “My Wi-Fi.” Click the “Advanced” button and then click on “Settings.” Then, tap on “Settings” to save your settings.
You can also manually select which radio band you want to connect to. In the Settings menu, you can choose 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, or Both. By choosing the 2.4 GHz radio, you can turn off Tri-band auto-selection and revert to v5 controller.
